About Appendix
Appendix is a physician practice with an API that gives any AI agent, and any app, a human doctor in the loop for medical review and prescriptions when appropriate.
We built it for people who already use AI for health questions and for developers building health products, so that an AI conversation can end with a real physician’s decision instead of “you should see a doctor.”
What Appendix does
Physician review from your own AI agent
Describe a health problem to Claude, ChatGPT, or any AI assistant, and ask it to write a thorough clinical letter and submit it through the Appendix API. One of our board-certified physicians reads it, writes back with an assessment and guidance, and e-prescribes to your pharmacy when a prescription is appropriate. You get a doctor's decision without leaving the assistant you already use.
The Appendix Prescribing API
Health apps and AI agents add physician review with one API call. The app keeps the conversation; Appendix handles patient consent, identity verification, physician review, and e-prescribing, then reports the outcome by webhook. Products that could only say "you should probably see a doctor" can now end with a prescription at the pharmacy.
Membership for you and your family
A monthly membership puts our physicians on retainer for you, with additional seats for family members from six months old. Every submission gets a personal response from an in-house physician, and prescriptions are included when clinically appropriate. You can cancel at any time.
A free medical knowledge base
Appendix maintains a searchable knowledge base of peer-reviewed clinical literature that any AI agent can query, free and without an API key. Any human or agent can use it to research a medical topic with real sources.

Bring your own agent
Health-specific chatbots ask you to stop using your assistant and start using theirs. Appendix works inside the agent you already have, through a skill file, an MCP server, or a copy-paste prompt, and inside any app through the API. The physician comes to you rather than the other way around.
In-house physicians, not a marketplace
Appendix staffs its own board-certified U.S. physicians and is itself the medical practice. Every request is read by a named physician who takes responsibility for the decision, writes back personally, and can decline when a prescription isn't the right answer. Nothing is auto-approved.

Create a developer account and self-issue a free test key instantly. Integrate against the sandbox, which returns simulated physician decisions and fires the same webhooks as production, then request production access with a description of your use case. Response times and communication

Is Appendix a real medical practice?
Yes. Appendix, Inc. operates an in-house practice of board-certified U.S. physicians who review every request individually and prescribe when medically appropriate. The software is how requests reach the physicians; the physicians are the service.
Is Appendix a chatbot?
No. Appendix doesn't ask you to switch to its own AI. You use the assistant you already have, it writes up the visit, and Appendix brings the doctor. The same is true for apps: the app owns the conversation and calls the Appendix API for physician review.
Who writes the prescription?
A licensed, board-certified U.S. physician on the Appendix staff. A prescription is written only when the physician judges it medically appropriate, and the physician can decline or recommend a different treatment. Appendix never prescribes controlled substances.
Where is Appendix available?
Physician review and prescriptions are available in all 50 U.S. states and Washington, DC. Prescriptions are e-prescribed to the pharmacy the patient chooses. The medical knowledge base is free and available worldwide.
